The Crisis Counselling Programme provides counselling services from the age of 14 years. Most of our clients are survivors of physical, sexual, emotional and economic abuse. Currently, we hold two counselling offices located at the Alexandra Health Clinic and the Alexandra Police Station. Services provided include counselling for men and women on a 24-hour basis.
We also facilitate support groups for adult women who have experienced abuse in the home and those who have been raped. Various art forms are utilised to facilitate the said support groups.
Objectives:
To assist women who have been subjected to abuse regain or return to their normal functioning status.
To bring women who have common problems together in order that they may share their problems and give each other support. These women are given an opportunity to talk openly and give each other options on how to resolve their problems.
To empower women to recognize and identify abuse when it occurs
- To empower women to be economically viable.
To create a platform where women can discuss various topics pertaining to gender issues.
To challenge and redefine the cultural, social, political and economic factors underlying violence against women in South Africa.
